After a recent appeal to Yard owners, village heads, district chiefs, governors or commissioners, members of parliament, community heads, religious and traditional leaders to plant fruit bearing trees along the length and breadth of the country, we have so far realized some positive developments. To be more precise Farafeni residents soon after the appeal embarked on a tree planting exercise which we never expected could expand so fast or within the immediate.
Today FARAFENI has taken the lead in that regard. National assembly member Honorable Dembo Camara, brother Fakebba Sawaneh contacted me to make me understand that they have started the tree planting exercise and would make sure cashew trees, mango and other fruit bearing trees are planted in that area.
Alongside N A M Camara is also inviting local and foreign investors to FARAFENI. Especially those ready to start housing projects, fishing, transportation, roads and cleansing services. The N A M and team are determined to start projects that will employ the youth, women and the physically challenged. Job creationn according to Fakebba Sawaneh is the best way to stop rural urban migration and stop Gambian youth from venturing the back way.
Very soon FARAFENI will be using the media to promote the image of the border down likewise show case the city’s potentials for people who are ready to invest. Be they local or international industries what counts is capacity building and spreading opportunities through hard work.
Gambians abroad are definitely being encouraged to own properties or start their own businesses in places like FARAFENI. As soon the Farafeni story hits screens of the international media many will come.to know how determined these folks are.
