Dr. Momodou Lamin Sedat Jobe, Gambia’s former Foreign Minister, under former dictator Yahya Jammeh’s rule, has been appointed Gambian Ambassador to France, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. Mr. Jobe is a career diplomat. He speaks fluent English and French. He was living in exile in neighboring Senegal, prior to his recent home return.

According to reliable sources close to the Foreign Ministry, Mr. Jobe is waiting for his official diplomatic accreditation credentials before he starts his tour of duty to France. Mr. Jobe said our source, will be heading the Gambian mission in Paris.

Born in 1944, Mr. Jobe was Gambia’s Foreign Minister between the period of 1998 to 2001, when he resigned from the Jammeh government in protest of the expulsion of the former British Diplomat assigned to the Gambia. Jobe’s grounds of contention at the time was that the expulsion of the British Diplomat, was done without his consent. He also said the decision was likely going to jeopardize bilateral relationship between Britain and Banjul.
