Yard is composed of young GAMBIANS most of whom are students at the UTG with one of their founder members currently studying in South Africa.
During my recent visit to The Gambia I had the privilege of meeting them through Jarsong Sanyang. After I returned to the USA also Jarsong Sanyang, Sira Danso, Adama T Yarboe and Sainey in South Africa remained active on following up with me. These are young men and ladies who have found in their hearts a soft spot for the disabled therefore have decided to show zeal and keen interest thus pursuing their objectives with dedication and determination! They indeed have big hearts. They equally remain vigorous when searching for sponsorship and logistics from any person or institution. Their approach and stand has started producing results.
So far a Gambian, Mr Gibby Jallow in New York has pledged a significant amount which as soon as received will be wired to YARD members. I personally also have pledged and my pledge Inshaa Allah will remain a standing order meaning I will be sending my contributions every other month or so. My wife also has pledged and we will make sure those monies or equipment will reach the needy during the coming weeks or months via YARD. We did it in the past by purchasing wheel chairs for the disabled and shipped those via Dakar Senegal therefore the same zeal remains within the Sy family.
The YARD committee will be staging or organizing it’s first major fund raiser during the first week of the month of August this year Inshaa Allah.
In view of the above referenced, Banjul Focus Admin is appealing to each and every of you our dear audience, fans which includes philanthrophists to reach out to these youngersters and sponsor the helpless, young disabled persons. Whose future can be turned into success and progress where there was no hope.
Below is the mission statement of YARD.
For sending any form of assistance please reach out to this number.
Numbers of each of the YARD committee will be shared to make it easy for sponsors calling to assist.
BEGIN YARD MISSION STATEMENT
Young advocates for the rights of the disabled Is a vibrant organization established in 2016 by young people to address the social inequalities that persons with disabilities face in societies.YARD also seeks to address the legal and policy deficits that affect disability rights. Thus,on several occasions ,YARD headed function by meeting with partners such as Gambia federation of the disable (GFD)to work on disability rights issues .YARD’s desire to address disability rights is further fueled by her believe that education for PWD’s can help to eliminate social and economic barriers that affect the large part of PWD’s in their daily lives.Furthermore, YARD furtively believes in a society where equality and inclusion is substantially prioritized in all aspects of society which further serves as a compliment to fairness and equity as lawyers may call it. YARD also believes that our world needs people who can understand the reality that ,it is a gift to learn how to live with disability, and therefore persons living with disability should be respectfully recognized, and be inclusive in all aspects of life especially in the areas of education and be given the platform, support and recognition to realize their dreams and aspirations, as losing a part of your body doesn’t necessarily mean losing your dreams. Don’t think limits, think possibilities. ◦
